As a Dental Hygienist in the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF), you will play an important role in maintaining the oral health and operational readiness of our personnel. This position combines clinical skills with a strong focus on oral health promotion, helping personnel to maintain excellent standards of oral health.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will carry out a wide range of clinical and preventative procedures, including:

• Scaling, polishing, and debridement of teeth to prevent and manage periodontal disease.
• Taking radiographs to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Constructing mouth guards.
• Providing preventive measures such as topical fluoride treatment to protect against dental decay.
• Delivering tailored oral health education to individuals and groups to encourage lifelong oral health habits.

Beyond the clinic, NZDF Dental Hygienists are trained and prepared to deploy both within New Zealand and overseas. You may be part of a mobile dental team providing care to deployed personnel during operational missions, humanitarian aid responses, or military exercises. This work requires adaptability. Teamwork, and the ability to apply your professional skills in unique and challenging environments.
