As a Reserve Driver in the Army, you will be trained to operate your vehicle carrying troops or equipment by day and night, anywhere in the world, and in all weather conditions and terrain.
Army Drivers operate in a tactical environment. As such soldier skills such as weapon handling and section battle drills are continually practised as a pre-requisite to the trade. Drivers will be expected to learn and remember these skills before going on to conduct their trade training, as they will be expected to combine the two in an effort to maintain security while conducting driving tasks.
Drivers are employed within the unit as co-drivers until they are qualified with a defence driving permit for a certain type of vehicle. From this point they take a more active role conducting numerous driving tasks in support to the battalion group. They are expected to attend all training days and weekends where they will cover everything from the soldier skills of fire and maneuver to the trade specific skills such as vehicle recovery, off road driving and counter-vehicle ambush drills.
Drivers will be expected and encourage to gain as many licences as they can in order to drive the wide variety of military vehicles. This will include NMV, Unimog, 2228, Off road forklifts, motorcycles and pinzgauers.
As an Army Reserve Soldier, the minimum remuneration you will be paid from day one is a daily rate of $105.39. Your remuneration will increase upon graduation of your recruit course to a daily rate of $119.41 and will continue to increase on promotion and seniority.
