We provide New Zealand’s land-based combat forces. We are sure you will be familiar with the role of the infantry soldier.
But you may not know some of the other careers:
Find out more about these Army roles.
Today’s soldier can call upon all kinds of kit to assist them - Light Armoured Vehicles (LAV), guns and high tech communications equipment. We certainly need it because of the wide variety of challenges that we are called upon to assist with. It can be anything from combat scenarios to peacekeeping and humanitarian aid, such as in the Christchurch earthquakes.
Most soldiers find themselves called away several times a year on field exercises. These are when we practice soldiering, so when we are called upon in real situations, we are primed and ready. Exercises will take you across New Zealand, as well as overseas and are often conducted in partnership with our allies, such as the British, Canadian or American forces.
